I am tired today. We went to Ararat, NC where some in-laws live and traded labor. I tilled a 12 feet by 40 feet garden space and Johnny put new front rotors and brake pads on my wife's car. Johnny works at a parts house so he gets a substantial discount on parts.

Net results: garden space for Jackie and Johnny; new brakes for us and a sore back for Mark ;)

My extended period of unemployment leaves me terribly bored on some days. I can always sit around and think about the things I ought to me doing.

One day I went hunting for some speech to text software for Linux and ended up finding a text to speech application named Festival. Since I've been playing around with screencasting too I had to make a little video of festival in action. Strange I know...it's the bored thing ;-)

The promised bump from the Feds kicked in last week.

Odd thing is it, the $25/wk raise from the Feds, isn't showing up on the NCESC website or when I call the toll free number for the card. Makes me wonder about the tax situation for that extra money. It's taxable.

I'm now an official RHCT! I passed the test yesterday in Raleigh.

For full disclosure it was my second try in a weeks time.

I bombed out on my first try on something fairly simple that a linux system admin should know how to do. Well I didn't really bomb out on that one, I got it done it just took too long so I timed out on the fourth and final problem.

This time I studied more and was more relaxed even though I was twenty minutes late for the start of the test.

Frosty Morning

Submitted by Mark on Thu, 01/29/2009 - 9:52am.

I was awaken this morning by my wife, Shirrell, shaking me. "Mark, wake up! My car doors are frozen shut, I need help." Glance at the clock...5:45, oh gee! Shirrell works for Goody's in Elkin which is nearly an hours drive away.

"What's the temperature?"
"Oh this won't be too bad..."
